The Dubai Mall, focus for Emaar's development of “Downtown Dubai”, is a unique blend of sophisticated retail and luxury leisure facilities. Global and regional retailers will bring their upmarket brands into the palatial glass and steel mall, which is expected to transform shopping and leisure in Dubai as the Emirate bids to become the retail capital of the world.
The most innovative and visionary retail project by Emaar won two prestigious awards at the first annual Retail Future Project Awards at MAPIC, Cannes, in 2004. The Mall claimed the Best Retail Development Scheme (Large) and the Best Use of Lighting in a Retail Environment awards.
“The grandeur and magnitude of The Dubai Mall has certainly inspired the award organizers who have confirmed the Mall will be ground breaking in its very concept and it illustrates ideas that will energize retail development of the future,” said Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Executive Director, Retail, Emaar Properties.
“Over the past few years, Dubai has offered more choices in shopping, dining and entertainment than any other city in the region,” added Ibrahim. With The Dubai Mall, Emaar has raised the bar on these choices and has excited the people's taste for better things in life.”
The vast complex, despite its grand scale, is only one element of Emaar's sprawling Downtown Dubai district, the biggest urban development in the Middle East. This will also feature the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest tower, the Old Town, the Residences, an Office Park and the Boulevard just across the first interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Landscaped gardens and parklands with stunning water features will add to the charm of the Mall. In terms of convenience, some 16,000 parking spaces are planned. On completion, The Dubai Mall will be a crucial part of what Dubai has to offer visitors. The Mall expects to attract 5million visitors in the first full year of business, with a continuing growth of 20 to 30 per cent a year.
The Dubai Mall occupies some 5 million sq ft of commercial property, of which 351,000 sq meters can be leased. More than 1,000 stores in 10-15 distinct ‘malls-within-a mall' will form the centerpiece of the Mall's unique retail offering.
The Mall offers entertainment, dining and culture - including the world's largest indoor Gold Souq, Food Court, Waterfront Atrium, Oasis Fountain, Fashion Island, Ice Oval, The Aquarium and Kiddy Land. |
